Silicon Valley’s Own “Comic Con + Maker Con” Offers Three Maker Workshops with Renown Makers Bill Doran, Sophy Wong and Beverly Downen

San Jose, Calif. – April 20, 2022 – SiliCon with Adam Savage, Silicon Valley’s largest Comic Con and Maker Con, has unveiled three virtual maker workshops. In the months leading up to its August event, fans, aspiring crafters and future makers can get in on the fun early with the three maker workshops. Workshops will be led by award-winning prop-makers, designers and cosplayers, and tools and materials will be sent to registered participants in advance. Participants can choose from “Foamsmithing a Foam Fantasy Helmet,” “Building a Cyberpunk Headset,” or “Making Dragon Horns.” A 15% discount will be applied when a participant signs up for all three workshops. Space is limited. 

With a theme of “Creating the Improbable,” SiliCon with Adam Savage is returning to the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, August 27-28, 2022, bringing together the best of pop culture, tech, science, makers, artists, cosplay, gaming, comic creators, authors and more. 

“Foamsmithing a Foam Fantasy Helmet” with Bill Doran

In this workshop, master foam-smith and prop-maker, Bill Doran from Punished Props will lead participants in creating an EVA foam fantasy helmet. Bill will walk step-by-step through the process of creating the helmet base structure and adding shapes and details to customize it. This workshop will be fun for all skill levels, and Bill will share many of his tips for working with EVA foam for use in future projects!

“Building a Cyberpunk Headset” with Sophy Wong

In this workshop, über-talented designer and fabricator, Sophy Wong will guide participants through the process of transforming a ready-made “starter object” into a totally dazzling cyberpunk headset. Sophy will cover what to look for in a starter piece and how to pattern from it for a seamless look, tips on finding inspiration sources for a unique, compelling design, and how to add lights, details, and color to bring your headset to life.

“Making Dragon Horns” with Beverly Downen

In this workshop, cosplay rockstar Beverly Downen of Downen Creative Studios, will guide participants through the process of making wearable dragon horns for any costume or occasion. Students will use EVA foam and hot glue to create awesome, customizable horns that are ready to paint and decorate. These tools and materials are super easy to work with, making this a fun workshop for makers at any skill level.
